Solutions for Activation Issues

Activation is the way of licensing the product for a user. Issues in activating will result in product working in reduced functionality mode.
The solution for most of the activation isses will be deleting the Opa12.dat file.

The steps for the same will be as follows:

For vista and windows 7 users-
  •  Configure to show hidden folders first.
  •  Click on start and type %programdata%, in the search box and press enter.
  •  Double-click the Microsoft folder.
  •  Double-click the Office folder.
  •  Double-click the Data folder, right-click the Opa12.dat file in that folder, and then click Delete.
  • Close the windows explorer window and restart the application.
  • Start the activation wizard.
  1. Click Start, click Run, type %AllUsersprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data, and then click OK.
  2. Locate the Opa12.dat file in the Data folder.
  3. Right-click the Opa12.dat file, and then click Delete.
  4. Start a Office application to start the Office Activation Wizard.

This works for the 2007 and 2010 versions.

Note:  We should not delete the file Opa12.bak
