Microsoft Access is a relational database management system from Microsoft that combines the relational Microsoft Jet Database Engine with a graphical user interface and software-development tools. It is available with Microsoft Office Suite applications included in professional and higher editions.
It was first released in 1992 for windows applications and its version is 1.0, it was then improved in compatibility and was again released in 1993 and included Access basic Programming Language with version 1.1. This version worked well initially but later on it caused data corruption with files more than 10MB.

Jet base Engine 3.0 and 3.5 that are used in Access 7.0 and in Microsoft Access 97 has severe issues that made it unusable with computers more than 1GB of memory. It was fixed post release of Access 97 version.
One most important feature in transition of Microsoft Access from 97 to 200 version is it is not backward compatible with its earlier versions. All the above versions support Access 2000 format.
