Trace Precedents Of A Formula

If we find a formula in the middle of the data and if we want to know the data that is being used in that formula we may need to search for the addresses in the formula bar. Microsoft Excel has provided us another feature to see the cells and data used for that formula.

Steps to See the data of a formula in Excel 2003: 

1) Click on the cell where we have a formula and click on the Tools Menu and Click on Formula Auditing and Trace Precedents.




2) This will show the elements of the formula used in a blue box, selecting the range of cells, and arrow leading to the result box where we find the formula.
